Consumer Affairs Minister, Pralhad Joshi had informed these companies about the notice of CCPA in a post on social media platform X. Joshi had said that he would also instruct to investigate allegations of separate pricing strategy in other segments like food delivery and online ticketing from CCPA.
The Uber spokesman told Reuters, “We do not decide the price based on the users’ phone manufacturer. We will work with CCPA to remove any misunderstanding.” Ola, Apple and Google did not answer the request sent for comments about this. India’s big markets include India. Recently, Joshi said that discrimination in pricing is a major violation of consumers’ rights. In October last year, CCPA gave a show cause notice to Ola Electric involved in large electric two-wheeler companies, alleged violations of consumers’ rights, misleading advertisements and inappropriate business methods.
The Karnataka High Court had given a six -week deadline to the company to answer the previous letter of CCPA. The CCPA had initially investigated a large number of complaints against Ola Electric. In this, violations of customers’ rights, misleading advertisements and deficiencies in service were found. After this, the Director General of Investigation of CCPA was directed to investigate the matter. Ola Electric argued that the officers who issued the notice are not authorized under the Consumer Protection Act. The company had said that the officer who issued the notice has not been given the post of Director or Additional Director. On this, the High Court had clarified that the Director General of CCPA has authorized an officer with the post of Senior Director to investigate.
